Costa Rican Border Police intercepted an important cargo of smuggled medications in Peñas Blancas, La Cruz Guanacaste.
Border Police agents were patrolling a sector of the border when a group of men noticing the police presence dropped the bags they were carrying and managed to escape to Nicaraguan territory.
The bags contained a total of 10,969 units of different medications with an estimated value of over 4.8 million colones (approximately $8,000 USD).
The Ministry of Security affirmed this one of the biggest confiscations of medicines registered in the northern border so far this year. Many of these medications require a prescription to be sold in the country.
The medications were delivered to the regional office of the Ministry of Health in La Cruz for their destruction.
